CIWM (WAMITAB)

CIWM (WAMITAB)

Since it was formed in 1989, CIWM (WAMITAB) has evolved in line with the convergence between the sectors with a clear focus on promoting and supporting environmental sustainability. With over 120 qualification pathways and 70 quality assured centres, CIWM (WAMITAB) offers an unrivalled specialist network to support staff development.

We work directly with industry leaders to shape and deliver employer-led qualifications that provide individuals with fit-for-purpose skills for the workplace. Our values are underpinned by the desire to see every individual being given the opportunity to learn. By qualifying the workforce, we aim to embed a culture of safety and progression, making the industry more attractive as a career.

We are a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting technical competence in the industry via regulated programmes, accreditation of in-house training schemes and on-the-job assessment tools.

In 2020, CIWM and WAMITAB announced the two organisations would integrate under CIWM – a move that is intended to strengthen the provision of relevant and fit-for-purpose qualifications, particularly for the resources and waste management sector.

In 2021, CIWM received recognition as an Awarding Organisation and End Point Assessment Organisation (England) from the educational regulators in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, marking an important milestone in this integration.

CIWM (WAMITAB) Team

The CIWM (WAMITAB) team has extensive experience across the sectors we support and also bring with them knowledge and experience of education and skills across a wide footprint of activity.

Since CIWM received recognition as an Awarding Organisation and End Point Assessment Organisation (England), WAMITAB and CIWM operate under an integrated team.

CIWM (WAMITAB) is registered as a ‘not-for-profit’ charity with the Charity Commission and our activities encompass a number of charitable purposes which have far reaching benefits for the:

  • advancement of environmental protection and improvement
  • conservation of the environment
  • promotion of sustainable development

CIWM (WAMITAB) plays a key role in ensuring employees across the waste and resource management industry have the necessary skills and competence to introduce and maintain sustainable waste management practices for the benefit (and safety) of individuals and the public. Although our focus remains on those employed in this industry it is also of benefit to the wider community through the more efficient use of resources and the advancement of environmental protection.

In recent years, our objectives have expanded to encompass new industries and the broader educational requirements associated with them. We are now also focusing on developing the capabilities, competencies, skills, knowledge and understanding of individuals across cleaning, facilities management and parking as these industries converge with waste management.
